Celebrating the life of

Parnell Burke Noth

Passed away on April 26, 2024

Parnell Burke Noth

              Parnell Burke Noth

              1972 - 2024

Beloved wife of New Yorker cartoonist, Paul Noth, cherished daughter of Richard and Dina Burke, and sister of Christopher Burke, Parnell died of heart failure on April 26th in a hospital intensive care unit after a five-week struggle with acute pneumonia.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Parnell grew up as a “pioneer child” with a handful of other great kids in the very early days of The Landings on Skidaway Island. She attended Savannah Country Day School from first through ninth grades, before graduating from Chatham Hall, an all-girls boarding school in Chatham, Virginia. Parnell received a B.A. in Creative Writing and Literature from Emerson College in Boston, a program that included a summer at Oxford University in England and a semester at the European Institute for International Communications in Maastricht, Holland. Both those programs focused on creative writing, fostering the formidable skills she displayed in notes, letters and essays in her early years and in the cogently argued and persuasively drafted presentations and business recommendations that characterized her professional career.

Parnell had a gift for marketing.  Recruited to the Boston advertising agency of Bronner, Slosberg, Parnell received favorable notice in Advertising Age, and when she relocated to New York to join the dot.com movement, she served as VP Marketing for Office.com. Switching to the securities industry, Parnell quickly earned her Series 7 license and became Director of Strong Funds Internal Creative Agency and later Director/Marketing at Merrill Lynch, where she led a team rebranding and relaunching “Merrill Edge,” a successful program that has now grown to three call centers and over 1500 advisors, nationwide. At the time of her death, Parnell was working as a freelance Marketing Consultant assisting private equity firms, hedge funds, and corporations with assessments of investment opportunities.

Parnell was a loving and loyal friend, creating life-long bonds with classmates, business associates, and others she met through travel and social gatherings. She was fiercely independent (“do it myself mommy” was likely her first full sentence), adventurous (dragging her father on to the wildest rides an amusement park could offer), and a lover of animals of all sizes and species: a dead lawn mole she buried under the sobriquet “Holy Moley,” her budgie, her rabbit “Bandit,” our family dog and cat, Molly and Macavity, her horse “Flying Bob,” and the dogs she cared for and loved as an adult: Sancho, Watson and finally Brownie, who the hospital kindly allowed to visit and cheer her in her ICU room.

Parnell was filled with life, love, energy, creativity, kindness, wit and laughter and will be deeply missed by all those she left behind: her husband, Paul Noth of Milwaukee, her parents, Richard and Dina Burke and her brother Christopher Burke (Leigh Ann) all of Savannah, and two devoted Aunts, Claire Burke of New York City and Cathryn deWilde of Geneva, Switzerland as well as 12 nieces and nephews and four cousins.

A graveside service will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

Oh my! This tragic news hits me in the gut. I shared so many fun days with Parnell. We ran willy nilly around the Landings with her golden retriever Molly, and shared a summer or two as campers at Camp Merrie Wood. She was an absolute hoot, blessed with an unforgettable and sharp sense of humor. I send my deepest condolences to her husband and family.
